DooF,
F-O-O-D backwards, is a timely new PBS-bound series for
children 6 to 11 that challenges the rising epidemic in childhood
obesity by changing the way children think about food. We believe
we can counter nutrition problems by engaging children in a
fun, new alternative to unhealthy food and the television culture
that goes with it.
How does DooF
make a difference?
DooF combines experience at the very highest levels
of the entertainment, food, and health educational communities
to tell children the story of where food comes from and transform
their approaches to eating -- the way shows like Sesame Street
did for reading.
Is DooF in the schools?
Yes, How Now Productions' pioneering School Outreach Program
is funded by the Alameda County (California) Health Department
with plans to launch nationwide.
Can you describe the show itself?
Spurred on by the antics of ‘DooF,’ a goofy animal with a skeptical nature and a taste for junk food, who ‘hangs out’ on the roof of the clubhouse, our multi-cultural troup of kids traces food back to its origins — mixing in energetic live action, colorful graphics, irresistible music, and our animated foodbackwards device, which triggers webcam and docu segments. The result: a show that entertains kids while introducing them to the path of food from the ground up and the lifelong rewards of healthy cooking and eating.
Will DooF come in other languages?
A Spanish-language version will be targeted simultaneously
to the huge Spanish-speaking market in the U.S. and abroad.
How is DooF funded?
DooF is building partnerships with state and local
governments, foundations, corporations and individuals who
share our goal of inspiring in children a more healthy approach
to food.
Can I contribute to DooF?
Yes! Funders are eligible for 501(c)(3)
tax-deductions through our fiscal sponsor and nationwide exposure
through a tiered system for underwriter crediting. If you

Who is your fiscal sponsor?
Our fiscal sponsor is the Center for Independent Documentary,
a non-profit organization located in New England. More information
